VP Biden has spoken and now I have clarity as to what to preach on Sunday.

Check out this interesting news story from D.C. today:

"WASHINGTON (TheBlaze/AP) -- Vice President Joe Biden has a commandment for pastors, rabbis and nuns: He wants them to tell their flocks that enacting gun control is the moral thing to do. But another vote may have to wait until Congress wraps up work on an immigration overhaul.
Biden met for two-and-a-half hours Monday with more than a dozen leaders from various faith communities - Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh, to name a few. Both Biden and the faith leaders encouraged each other not to give up on what has been an arduous and thus far fruitless effort by Biden and President Barack Obama to pass new gun laws in the wake of December's schoolhouse shooting in Connecticut."

Interesting to hear the federal government telling pastors what to say in their pulpits. As if we can't think for ourselves and as if the people in the pew can't think for themselves. Also interesting that a politician would think pastors should follow their lead as to what is "moral".

Interesting how politicians tout separation of church and state until they need to use the church to further their agenda. Wasn't it politicians who wanted to take the Ten Commandments out of the puplic arena, the very Commandments that provide a moral base for man-made law?

Note to Biden: "I've got a few more important things to say about 'the moral thing to do' than talk about a piece of legislation. I want to teach people in our church about what real morality is and how the gospel of Jesus Christ can provide deliverance now and for eternity from the strangelhold of this world's immorality. The moral issues of our country are not solved by passing more laws. The Pharisee's of our time fail to understand that when evil people with evil hearts want to do evil things they don't check with the law to find out if it is legal."

This is not the first time that Biden has brought religion and church into a political discussion, back in May of 2012 he said that a budget proposal  to dramatically reduce federal spending was “contrary to the social doctrine” taught by the Catholic Church to which he belongs. For whatever reason Biden feels that speaking out on finacial and budget concerns as moral is more important than speaking out about the moral issue of killing the unborn - that must be kept silent. Calvin Frieburger says, "Biden excuses his abortion disobedience by claiming he can’t impose his personal religious beliefs upon a pluralistic nation. But when it comes to a much flimsier application of Catholic teaching, the VP has no qualms about imposing his beliefs on public policy and bashing politicians for not living up to his standards. Does the separation of church and state apply only when there are inconvenient children to be disposed of?"

or when there is legislation that needs to be passed?

  1. I wonder why God is allowing certain people to lead our country. Many fundamental preachers are saying the same thing, and I think it is because the same Holy Spirit is pointing this out to all of them. America has turned her back on God, and is now in a position where judgment will not suprise anyone with a biblical worldview. Pray, pray, pray for America and for the faithful few to stand strong and hold fast.

  2. We should never forget that it is "we the people" that have voted for our leaders and it is God's will that we pray for them.
