Mark 8: What Sign?

NO SIGN? The idea of looking for a sign has always boggled my mind just a bit. Maybe a sign is only a sign if you see it. I would love to say there was no sign to mark the exit I missed the other day on the highway, but I'm afraid I just didn't see it.

Can you imagine asking Jesus for a sign right after seeing him feed 4,000 people from seven loaves of bread and a few fish. Kinda like finishing off a huge piece of turtle cheesecake and then turning to your spouse and asking them, "What's for desert?" Say what? You want a sign? How about
the strange occurrences surrounding this guy's birth: check into it, you might find something there. And then there are those mass feedings that come from nothing, those healing sessions, and the powerful teaching that captivates many and brings compassion and conviction in a strange one-two punch that leaves you feeling cared for like never before. Jesus is telling theses guys that ignored all that, " you'll get no sign!"

Notice, however, the sign of signs that he unloads on those that believe in Verse 31. The sign of the resurrection, yeah that would be the sign for the ages, but if you miss that sign, if you ignore it, look away, or deny it exists: you could convince yourself it was never given and then Jesus words would apply: there is no sign, other than those given, that will bring you to a point of belief. Don't miss the sign. And don't miss your exit... uh... I mean entrance. What a ride and what a destination. Enjoy!
