Mark 9: Hints of the Kingdom and Battling Sin

This passage was a challenge to read beginning to end. The first verse alone sent me into a five minute tailspin of consideration, more of that in a minute. The reason it was a challenge was because in so many different ways I wanted to do an intense study of the topic: first in its context and then broadening out to the fuller Biblical context.

Today thought the first verse got me. “Verily I say unto you, that there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power." While the kingdom holds such intrigue and so many interpretations, this statement certainly seems to confine the possibilities. There are several interpretations of this passage and when the Kingdom of God is said to come with power. Some say it was fulfilled in the immediate context at the transfiguration, others the resurrection, some say at Pentecost, still others say in A.D. 70, and many say it is yet to occur and will take place at the 2nd coming of Jesus. The coinciding passage in Matthew is chapter 16:27-29. Check it out and see when you think the Kingdom has/will come with power? Any thoughts? I do.
